Lace Effects 1

From 6 October 2013 to 18 May 2014, the International City of Lace and Fashion in Calais will be showcasing contemporary creation through the exhibition Lace Effects 1. This is one of the actions of the European Crysalis project, which was selected as part of the European cross-border cooperation programme INTERREG IVa 2 Seas, co-funded by the ERDF. Grouped together under the title Moving Textiles, the Crysalis exhibition series links both the notions of expertise and technical proficiency to textile innovation. Lace Effects 1 thus presents textile, fashion and design works inspired by the lace theme.

Nowadays textile is hugely popular with designers and the public alike. Since the 1990s, we have seen an explosion of contemporary, multidisciplinary creations, all drawing inspiration from the “lace effect”. This is no longer confined to retro styles, ready-to-wear or curtain-making; lace has become truly fashionable!
